I have loads of books about bobbin lace, mostly published by Batsford Books in London, so I won't even attempt to list them all here. Bobbin lace is the absolute ultimate lace form, producing the most delicate and intricate work. I found this the most difficult skill to acquire, of everything I've done, but also the most satisfying.

One of a pair of doilies.

I can't remember where I got this pattern from; its really a fairly simple and common design. I made them for my mother's aunt, Mrs. Isabel Clark (the lady who made the pink patchwork quilt top on my Patchwork page.)

Making the lace for a christening gown.

I used one of the patterns I was taught during my bobbin lace lessons to make the lace I used for the christening gown I made for my nephew Daniel Self's christening. The completed gown can be seen on my Smocking page.

Bobbin lace samples

These were the samples I made during my series of bobbin lace lessons at Ashburton Community Centre in Victoria Australia.
